IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Don
Austin
November 12, 1950 – May 30, 2025
Michael Don Austin was born on November 12, 1950, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He passed peacefully in his sleep on Friday, May 30th of natural causes in his Aliso Viejo home. Michael was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Judy, his son Brandon, and his granddaughter Kaitlyn. Michael and Judy also had a daughter Melissa, who passed away in 1993 at the age of 16.
Michael was born to Gene and Bea Austin and has three siblings Ken, Tommy, and Gail. He grew up in Bakersfield, California, and attended Bakersfield High where he met his future wife, Judy Hyatt. After 3 months of marriage, Mike was drafted during the Vietnam War and reported for duty in May 1970. He was stationed in Germany and was proud to have served his country. After he was discharged from the Army, he went to work for Southland Corp. now known as 7-Eleven Inc. During his employment at 7-Eleven he returned to college on the GI Bill and graduated from the University of San Francisco.
Michael took great pride in being a devoted family man. He was happily married to his beloved wife, Judy, for 55 years and adored her deeply. Mike often said how proud he was of their son Brandon for showing remarkable resilience in overcoming challenges brought upon by his disabilities. However, whenever Brandon was sick or incapacitated, Mike was always there to care for him. Mike was also dedicated to helping raise his only grandchild Kaitlyn who referred to him as "My-Mike".
In his free time, he enjoyed golfing and fishing with his son, and gardening with his granddaughter. Michael also loved taking family vacations to Maui, Hawaii. However, one of Mike's greatest pleasures was spending time with Kaitlyn's pug, Ripley. The duo was inseparable and shared a special bond. He was frequently spotted outside with Ripley sitting on his shoulder.
There will be a short service honoring Michael at the Veterans Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr San Diego, CA on July 25, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. We extend our sincerest gratitude to everyone who has shown us compassion and support during this difficult time.
