IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Ryan
Mccue
September 14, 1976 – June 7, 2022
Michael Ryan McCue or "Q" died in the early evening on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at his residence in Huntington Beach California. He was 45 years young.
He had a cold and was suffering the typical cold symptoms including a fever. He had been particularly tired that day and took a nap in his recliner. While he was sleeping his wife, Trina was working upstairs. When she came back down she found that Mike had passed peacefully in his sleep. The coroner's report was inconclusive as to the cause of death but they did indicate that Mike had an enlarged heart. We have been left to suspect that he may have died from a heart attack or heart failure.
Michael Ryan McCue was born on Tuesday, September 14, 1976 in Jamestown, North Dakota to Robert and Jill McCue. He was the older brother to his sister, Julie Cuevas. The family on his paternal side was rich with children and cousins, Aunts and Uncles were plentiful. While they were fewer in numbers on his maternal side, it was none the lessor in love, fun or adventure. A lot of Michael's earliest years were spent surrounded by all of these people. This is when a foundation of family values, love, joy and laughter were laid in Mikes character.
Almost as soon as he was walking Mike was introduced to sports. Basketball and soccer both came and went and it was baseball that stayed the course. His life in fact, can be broken down into baseball seasons. He had the little league years, the high school years, the college years and the post season. Many of his richest relationships were built on the ball field. Mike played on many All Star teams and in the CIF Championship. What he lacked in style he made up for in talent. A proud moment was during the CIF playoff where Mike had an all out stretch game saving catch.
In 2001 Mike graduated from Briar Cliff University in Iowa with a B.A. in Sports Managements. After college Mike came back home and started working on his career. He worked in the mortgage industry and sales mostly. At his best, Mike was a natural with people. He was kind, fun loving and inclusive. In 2021 mike passed the NMLS exam that allowed him to originate and sell home loans. This was a very proud moment in Michael's career and a wonderful accomplishment.
Michael walked through a period of darkness, where addiction had a hold on him. After more struggle than anyone should have, Mike found his way. With a new faith and dedication to a Christian life, his life started to grow again. This was a scripture that had significance to him in this time; "For I know the plans I have for you," says the lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
-Jeremiah 29:11
There was one, most important relationship that had nothing to do with baseball and that was the relationship with his wife Trina. They had met when Mike was much younger and worked together at the Crocodile Cafe. They came together again, later in life about ten years ago. On October 7, 2019 Michael married his beautiful bride, Trina Norwood, on the beach in Huntington Beach. Trina's children, Sebastian, Natalia and family and friends were by their sides. Mike had never been more in love or committed. His family remembers these times as some of the best in his life.
Mike and Trina loved ridding their e-bikes around Huntington Beach, they were always exploring new restaurants and loved supporting the kids. This was one of the roles Mike most loved, being a friend and father figure to Trina's children. If you knew Mike, then you'd know that he didn't like to hold back, if he had an opinion you were probably going to hear about it. But in this new and most important job, he was learning how to toe the line. Mike and Trina wanted to have a child of their own and for a short time Trina was pregnant. The pregnancy failed and together they worked through their heartache, they named the baby Cooper Cuyler.
The week before he died he was reunited with his sister and her family for the Memorial day holiday. They were visiting from Boise and Uncle Mike always loved to make an event of things. He bought the biggest box of water balloons possible, think Cosco, super-size. While the kids were playing with the balloons, I remember looking over at my brother sitting on the steps in the shade. I was surprised that he wasn't in the middle of the fight, he seemed peaceful just watching. Mike, I hope that you are at peace now. I hope you see and know you are loved and missed. I know that our grandparents, family and friend that have gone before have welcomed you. And I know you'll be the life of the party.
Michael is survived by his wife Trina McCue and her children Sebastian and Natalia. His parents Bob & Jill McCue, his sister Julie Cuevas and his favorite nephew's Ash and Finley Cuevas. There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, June17th at The Ranch in Laguna Beach. He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn in Cypress near his paternal grandparents.
"Don't let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."
