Obituary

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved Michelle Ann Purcell. She fought a long and courageous battle against Alzheimer's, but she has now found peace.

Michelle was born in Boise, Idaho, on June 11, 1942, and is preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Colleen Cruser, her father, Theron Searle Roundy, and her favorite aunt, Maureen Cruser Rigby. She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 54 years, Neil J. Purcell Jr., and her three children, Deanna Stewart, Cary Holt, and Danielle Purcell, along with six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, her sisters Lisa Hanley , Pam Risher and brother Keith Bennett.

During her childhood, Michelle spent many years abroad, traveling in South America, as her stepfather served as an officer in the Navy. She met and married Neil Purcell, with whom she tied the knot on July 20, 1969, and together they moved to Laguna Beach, where they raised their children. Michelle was a talented artist and actively participated in the Art A Fair in Laguna for many years. Michelle was most proud and deeply in love with her husband of 54 years retired Laguna Beach Police Chief Neil Purcell.  Animals held a special place in Michelle's heart, and throughout her lifetime, she cared for over 30 dogs and many horses. Her greatest joy came when she and Neil moved to Montana, where they spent 20 wonderful years on the Gallatin Gateway before eventually returning to Laguna. They cherished their time with several Gypsy Vanner horses on their custom-designed ranch. In 2021, Michelle and Neil moved back to Laguna to be near their children and grandchildren.

Michelle was the light of our lives, and her radiant presence will forever shine in our hearts. We are grateful to all her friends who have reached out to us and shown immense love and support during this difficult time. The messages we have received have filled our hearts with joy.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Cary Holt and Suzi Afuso for taking exceptional care of our mom and dad in the past month. Michelle, you illuminated our lives, and your memory will give us the strength to carry on. You were dearly loved, and your spirit will forever remain in our hearts and souls.

We are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support and are grateful for all during this challenging time.  May Michelle rest in eternal peace. We love you!
