Obituary

Milo M. Swensen passed peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, October 7, 2015. He was born in Los Angeles to Fred and Helen Swensen. Milo graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1951 and from the University of Southern California with a degree in geography in 1960. Mr. Swensen has resided in the Palos Verdes Peninsula since the 1960's. Milo was born into a Los Angeles pioneer family. Antoine Swensen, Milo's grandfather, was the builder of the first fireproof building in Los Angeles as well as the Hill Street Tunnel. Milo worked for many years for Murray Howard Realty, which developed ranches in California. He was a cartographer for the company and also managed the ranches. Milo served in the US Army at the time of the Korean War. He gave dedicated service to Los Angeles as a volunteer deputy sheriff for many years. Milo was a lifetime member of the California Rifle and Pistol Association, a patron member of the National Rifle Association, and a lifetime member of the Peace Officer Association of Los Angeles County. Milo shared his passion for firearms training and taught procedures of gun safety to many of the younger generation. He was married for a short period in the 1980s and has no children. Milo is survived by his brother, Dr. Murray Swensen as well as an extended family. His loss is also felt by his large circle of friends. There will be a private service. Milo has requested that, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be sent to the National Rifle Association or the NRA Institute of Legislative Action https://www.nraila.org.

It is Milo's wish that relatives and friends are thanked for the friendship shared with him throughout his life.

A poem that Milo used for inspiration:

IT COULDN'T BE DONE

Somebody said that it couldn't be done,,

But he, with a chuckle, replied,

That "maybe it couldn't" but he would be one,

Who wouldn't say so till he tried.

So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin

On his face. If he worried, he hid it.

He started to sing as he tackled the thing,

That couldn't be done, and he did it.

Somebody scoffed, "Oh, you'll never do that:

At least no one ever has done it":

But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,

And the first thing he knew, he had begun it,

With the lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,

Without any doubting or quiddit.

He started to sing as he tackled the think

That couldn't be done, and he did it.
