Mitsuko Kamiya, born May 5, 1938, in Kobe, Japan, passed peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Saddleback Hospital. Her passing was a result of a complication from a series of falls at home starting about a month ago in August. Due to her age, it was difficult for her to recover.
She was 4thchild of six siblings; three have predeceased, and two siblings in Japan survive her and her three children, Andrew, Toki, and Richard, in California.
She was married to Nobuyoshi or Daniel, his English name, who also predeceased in 2014. They were married in Japan, moved to California in 1984, the year of Los Angeles Olympics, she was looking forward to once again seeing the Olympics. They owned and operated a Japanese fast-food restaurant in downtown LA called Sushi and Teri, sold it, retired in the 1990s, and moved to Anaheim. Mitsuko became a homemaker and her love for cooking and feeding people was evident. She enjoyed showing off her restaurant skills by preparing her friends and family's favorite dishes. They had been an active member of Calvary Costa Mesa. Still, after Nobuyoshi's passing, Mitsuko moved to Laguna Woods, and in recent years, she has stopped driving because of her knee pains and vision issues. But she was always listening to bible verses and studying the bible on her own. She was taught in Catholic school in Japan, but she hated it then, God has plans for all of us coming full circle.
She also loved to sew. She would alter dresses and pants for all of her friends and family. Recently, she has been active in sewing club in Laguna Woods, it is a regret, she has just recovered from an accident a year ago and was gaining strength to enjoy her hobbies. Her resilience in the face of challenges was truly inspiring.
We are deeply grateful for your support and condolences during this difficult time. Services to honor Mitsuko's life will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 5:30 PM at McCormick, followed by a reception.
