Modra Balodis was born on October 7, 1936 in Rugaji, Melnsalas Majas in Latvia to Alida Biezais & Izidors Sprodzans. She passed away May 28, 2016 in Laguna Woods, California. She is survived by her daughter, Liga Svikss; son-in-law, Normunds Svikss ; grandsons, Hugo & Helmuts; and son, Andris Balodis of Portland, Oregon. She was predeceased by her husband, Imants, in 2001.
Modra emigrated first to Germany during WWII and then to the United States in August 1950 with her parents. Modra resided in Delaware until she moved with her family to New Jersey in 1979. In 2007, after her husband's passing, Modra moved to Laguna Woods, California, to be near her daughter.
For many years Modra worked as a laboratory technician at Christiana Hospital in Newark , DE. She was a great cook, especially in preparing Latvian dishes (the best piragi), as well as an accomplished seamstress and gardener. Most of all, her life centered around her children. She was a caring and loving being, stretching out generous hands to help whenever she could. She was a life-long Lutheran and a strong believer in Latvian values.
Services to celebrate the life of Modra will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11am . Guests welcome for visitation starting from 10am
