Obituary
The Pitz, McConnell, O'Keefe, Verpaelst and Fallou families are sad to announce the passing of their beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, Monique Huguette Pitz.
Monique was born in Hull, Canada on January 27th, 1936. She passed away on May 3rd, 2016 at the age of 80, in Laguna Beach, California. She is survived by her loving husband, Marcel Pitz, of 58 years and her children; daughter Line and son-in-law Skip O'Keefe of Escondido, daughter Chantale and son-in-law Kim McConnell of Laguna Beach, son Dominic and daughter-in-law Lisa Pitz of Laguna Beach and daughter-in-law Julie Pitz of Laguna Beach. Monique was preceded in death by her son, Marc Pitz.
Monique is also survived by her grandchildren; Michael, Adrian, Nicholas, Nathan, Nolan, Taylor, Makenna, Mason, Anika, Mia and Karina plus her great-grandchildren, Victoria, Valerie, McKayla, Harper and Charlotte. In addition, she has numerous nieces and nephews in U.S., Canada, and Europe.
For the past 38 Years, Monique and her husband Marcel have run Dizz's As Is Restaurant in Laguna Beach. The loving couple built this landmark restaurant serving fine continental cuisine, in a 1920's quaint, shingled cottage. Through the French doors Monique could be found greeting guests and seating them for dinner, while Marcel cooked in the kitchen.
Monique enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, taking long walks in Laguna, especially in her neighborhood across from the high school. She was a skilled seamstress making tablecloths and curtains for the restaurant, and knitting blankets and clothing. A favorite pastime was working on French crossword puzzles and word searches that were sent to her by her sisters in Quebec. Over the years Monique enjoyed camping with her family and traveled the world with her husband.
Monique was a treasured friend to many. She was adored by her family, friends, and customers and will be truly missed. A celebration of life will be held for Monique at Victoria Beach on Monday, May 16th, 2016, at 12:30PM. It will be followed by a reception at Dizz's As Is.
