Nancy Cullen Duram, born February 23, 1941, passed away June 29, 2014 at the age of 73. She died peacefully, after spending the week surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her husband Jerry was by her side. She is survived by her husband, Jerry, and two children, Andrew Alan Durham and Christopher Cullen Durham. Nancy was also blessed with 4 Grandchildren, Ben & Owen (Who's arriving in August) Durham of Littleton, Colorado and Kayla & Patrick Durham of Buffalo, Wyoming.
Nancy was born in Los Angeles, CA, the first of two children of Paul and Nan Scanlon.
Nancy attended Notre Dame Girls Academy in Los Angeles. After graduation Nancy attended UCLA, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts. Her interest in drawing and painting was a constant part of Nancy's life from then on.
In 1965, a friend arranged a blind date with Jerry Durham at Mr. R's Steak House in the Valley. Nancy and Jerry were married on August 20, 1966, and their date at Mr. R's lasted for the next 48 years.
Throughout their years together, Nancy constantly expanded her professional horizons, gaining certifications for and working as a teacher's assistant, teacher, certified financial planner, and pre-school director. After earning a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University in 1992, Nancy capped off her career of service as a marriage and family counselor – establishing her own, successful practice in 2001.
Nancy, Jerry and the kids took a number of epic journeys from California to Iowa and Idaho, and they spent memorable weekends camping at Emma Wood State Beach near Ventura. The camping trips, near and far, were undertaken in a unique combination of a giant, yellow Econoline Van, and 21-foot Kenskill trailer. The giant van, with the tinted side windows, and customized, carpeted interior, became Nancy's kid hauler and commuter vehicle – and could likely be seen from Skylab.
As the kids grew older, Nancy and Jerry shifted their weekend focus from the sea to the desert. Staying in Yucca Valley, they explored the areas in and around Joshua Tree National Monument, rock hounding, hiking, and taking fantastic pictures of the desert in all seasons. Their explorations took them to places like Barker Dam, Indian Cove, and the Desert Queen Mine.
Over the last year, Nancy moved with Jerry to Lakewood, Colorado, joining their children and grandchildren in the Rockies.
