Obituary

Nelson was born in Pasadena on April 17, 1956 to Bunny (Elin) and John G Sundbye II, DDS. He attended San Marino Schools and proudly earned his DDS from USC School of Dentistry in 1983. That same year he married Mimi (Silliker) and his two sons Erik and Christian arrived soon after.

He is survived by sons Erik and Christian, daughter-in-law Kaitlyn, brother and sister-in law John and Audrey Sundbye, niece Linea Palmer, nephew Robert Sundbye and their families, step-mother Dorothy, and step-sisters Beverly de Lucia and Susan McGregor and their families. He is also survived by his ex-wife Mimi Paradise. Nelson was committed to helping all those who sought to recover from addiction and was rightfully proud of his hard won sobriety. He was the first one to offer assistance to anyone who was in need. He is deeply loved by all of his family.

Nelson was a dentist, gourmet cook, poet, artist, and all around Renaissance Man. Motorcycles and fast cars were his passion and his close friends all know how many times the motorcycles would challenge his very life. His time on Catalina Island at the Marine Science Center was a favorite time in his life and he published his research while there. He instilled in his family his love for the ocean and El Morro was his refuge. Nelson had a wonderful time taking his family out boating in the Blue Jacket and anyone in the cove was invited over for food and fun. No one was immune to his barbeque parties, he loved hosting family and friends and anyone they brought along! He will be remembered for being everyone's favorite host.

Above all, Nelson was a loving and proud father to Erik and Christian. His home was covered in pictures of all the wonderful times they enjoyed together. He spent a great deal of time supporting their activities and was grateful that his career allowed him so much family time. With both sons now grown his favorite thing to do was to have them over for dinner to his always over-abundant table.

He passed away at home on April 17, 2015, his 59th birthday. We will miss our loving and generous father, brother, and dear friend and know that everyone in Heaven will rejoice at his arrival.

Lo, There do I see my Father, and

Lo, There do I see my Mother, and

Lo, There do I see my Brothers and my Sisters and

Lo, There do I see my people back to the beginning, and

Lo they do call to me, and

bid me take my place among them in the halls of Valhalla,

Where the brave will live forever.
