Ninfa
Reyes
January 1, 1940 – March 24, 2026
Ninfa Reyes Calderon, a strong and kind-hearted woman whose life was defined by unwavering faith, love, and generosity, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, in Mission Viejo, California. Born on January 1, 1940, in Chilpancingo, Guerrero, Mexico, Ninfa’s journey was a testament to resilience and selflessness, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
Though she never learned to read or write, Ninfa possessed a rich inner world shaped by life’s lessons. She had a rare gift for storytelling, using the wisdom she gathered through experience to share stories and guidance with those around her. More than anything, she was a woman of profound faith and humble spirit, whose kindness knew no bounds. Despite having little in terms of material wealth, she always gave what she could. Visits to family were marked by her thoughtful gifts, and when family came to her home, she was the most gracious and welcoming host, never seeking anything in return.
Ninfa was a pillar of strength and intelligence, overcoming every challenge with valor and determination to provide a brighter future for her children. Her dedication to hard work, faith, and helping others was an enduring legacy. She was much more than a mother—she was a second mother to many, nurturing and supporting countless lives beyond her own family.
She took immense joy in the simple beauties of life—particularly her beloved spring flowers and vibrant colors, and cherished every moment spent with her family. Among her proudest accomplishments were her six children, seventeen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, who carry forward her spirit and values.
Ninfa is lovingly remembered by her daughters Juana Esquivel Rapicault, María Luisa Esquivel Valdivieso, Ana María Esquivel Pérez, and Patricia Esquivel Basurto. Her legacy also lives on through seventeen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, who continue to celebrate her memory and the love she bestowed upon them.
Her passing has left a void felt deeply by her surviving family, but her memory is honored and cherished. She was preceded in death by her husband, Esequiel Esquivel; her sons, Leobardo and Pablo Esquivel; and her grandson, Eduardo Esquivel.
The community will gather to remember and celebrate Ninfa’s life beginning with a Mass at St. Edward The Confessor Catholic Church, 33926 Calle La Primavera, Dana Point, CA, on March 31, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Following this, a viewing will be held at McCormick & Son Mortuaries, 25002 Moulton Parkway, Laguna Hills, CA, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., immediately followed by a memorial service until 4:00 p.m. The day will conclude with a time for fellowship and remembrance continuing at the mortuary until 6:00 p.m.
Ninfa Reyes Calderon’s life was a beacon of love, humility, and strength. Though she has departed from this world, her legacy of kindness, faith, and perseverance continues to inspire everyone fortunate enough to have known her. She will forever remain in the hearts of her family and all who were touched by her extraordinary spirit.
