Norma Lee Durst was born July 4th, 1935 and passed away at the age of 79 on October 25th, 2014. She left us in the comfort of her own home, in San Clemente, California. Norma is survived by her two children, Duane and Teri and their spouses Polly and Bob. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were fortunate enough to call this special woman "Grammy" will forever remember her strength and loving nature. Katsu, Amaya, Adam, Madi, Elizabeth, Olivia, and the rest of Grammy's friends and family will continue to be inspired by her selflessness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
Born in Wanblee, South Dakota to George and Elma Holm, Norma first moved to Oregon, eventually settling in California where she raised her family. She started working at a daycare center in La Puente where she picked up her passion for teaching children and finally decided to purchase Village Preschool in San Gabriel. She continued working for 25 years. Her hard work enabled her to retire and move to her dream house on the beach. Even breast cancer was no match for her fiery personality.
Family was always the most important thing to Norma. Whether it was going to Dodgers' games, taking walks on the beach, or just gathering everyone together for dinner, she always had time to take care of others. Between her school, caring for her aging mother, and her commitment to her grandchildren, many lives were touched by her generosity. Among these are her good friend Paul Buzby and her beloved dog, Carly, who supported her throughout the years. Those who have known her will always remember her strong will and dedication.
We would like to thank her caregivers, Ellie and Evy, for loving her in her final days.
