IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Ann
Mchenry
September 19, 1933 – March 3, 2023
Patricia (Pat) Ann McHenry passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, at Saddleback Memorial Hospital in Laguna Woods, CA, from a stroke. Born September 19, 1933, in San Angelo, TX, to Jack and Helen Garrett, she had one sibling, Robert Garrett (passed). She was married in 1951 to Sanford L. Roberts. They lived in Texas, Oklahoma, and Colorado before settling in Wichita, KS. They were divorced in 1966. She married Alan M. McHenry in 1971, and in the mid-1980s they moved to the Colorado mountains near Black Hawk. In 1992 they moved to Fallbrook, CA; soon after Alan's death, Pat moved to Laguna Woods in 2002.
Pat was an artist. Trained as a pianist from the age of 3, she was accepted into Julliard as a teenager, but was unable to attend. This did not stop her from working to improve her technique. As a young woman, and with 3 small children, she continued her training in Denver during the short time she and Sanford lived in Boulder. Her music inspired everyone who heard her play.
She took up painting in her 70's, studying with Lee Hochberg in Laguna Woods. Pat would try every genre at least once: forest and ocean landscapes, cloudscapes, still life, portraiture, and, very briefly, abstracts. Some of these were barely glimpsed by anyone else–if Pat was not happy with it, she hid it away. But several of her works were exhibited locally.
She was a loving mother, encouraging each of her children to develop their talents, comforting them when they hurt and cheering their successes. After her first marriage ended, Pat worked as a secretary, primarily to physicians or hospitals, to support them.
Pat never lost her strong sense of herself through a life that was sometimes difficult and, in the last 10 years, occasionally painful. She is survived by her children: Belinda Peters, Christopher Roberts, Cynthia Vance, Lisa Davis, and Kirk Roberts; five of her grandchildren: David Peters, Sean and Andrew Davis, and Jennifer and Brandon Roberts (another grandchild, Erik Davis, passed away as a child); and her 4 great-grandchildren: Liam and Julia Davis, and Mason and Hayes Roberts. All of them are deeply grateful for the loving care she received from her "adopted son," Marc Bailey.
