Pen-ning Dick Kao was born on August 21, 1937 and passed away on October 26, 2019 at the age of eighty-two years.
He started his career as a High School teacher in Taipei, Taiwan, where he married Ting-yi and welcomed his first daughter Rachel.He furthered his education with graduate studies at Northeast Missouri State University which is now called Truman State University in Kirksville,MO.
Pen-ning took his first job as a teacher in the US in Agency, Iowa, where he welcomed another daughter, Becky.After three years, he and his family moved to Chicago, IL where he continued to be successful in his long career. He was a dedicated educator who worked tirelessly to inspire his students at Clemente Academy High School throughout his thirty years there.
Pen-ning taught High School Special Education Math, Mandarin, and ESL and stayed after school working tirelessly to best guide his students in their high school work-study program.He was a superior role model.He was also delighted to teach his students Mandarin Chinese and ESL for many years at local colleges.
He had loved gardening at his home in Northbrook, IL and traveling.After retiring as an educator, he was overjoyed at being a loving Grandfather to Emily and Kayley. He and Ting-yi enjoyed their retirement years in Laguna Woods, CA.
Pen-ning loved any conversation he could have with those he came in contact with. He was a stranger to none. His laughter filled the room and he always had a big smile on his face.He eagerly volunteered his time and expertise every weekend at the Chinese Language School for 30 years.He was also Chairman of the Board of the CCEA, the Chinese Cultural and Education Association, where he administered and taught Mandarin Chinese language and culture.The school continues to thrive today.
He was always so eager and happy to help others.Pen-ning dearly enjoyed all of the young people he taught, as well as his coworkers and dear friends. He was a devoted son, loving husband, proud father and father-in-law and caring grandfather. He lived a full and prosperous life, that created so many wonderful memories for him and others.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, November 14, 2019 at McCormick and Son Mortuary at 10:30.
