Peter Glenane was born into this world on May 11, 1933 in his beloved Galway, Ireland. He was born into eternal life on June 7, 2015 at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Mary, of Laguna Woods, California, and their three children: Peter (Amy), Ron (Susan), and Cheryl. He was the proud grandfather of Emma, Aidan, Liam, Maeve, Declan, Maire, Ciaran, and Darcy, all of Orange County.
Peter was born in the village of Bawnmore outside the city of Galway to Willie and Mary Glenane. He was the eldest of twelve brothers and sisters who are now spread throughout Ireland, England, Canada and Australia. So beloved by his siblings, they traveled "back home" to Ireland two years ago to help Peter celebrate his 80th birthday.
Emigrating to Canada in his late teens, Peter met and married the love of his life, Mary MacDonald, a native of Scotland. They were married in Montreal on July 13, 1957. They headed west and eventually settled in Santa Ana, California, where their three children were born.
A devout Catholic who attended daily Mass, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and past president of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Peter loved everything Irish: music, literature, history, sport, and culture. He loved to laugh, sing songs and tell stories. He was well-versed in a variety of topics, especially Irish history, and was a great conversationalist. He used these gifts well as a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Peter played the traditional Irish sports of Gaelic football and hurling since childhood. He was co-founder and first president of the Wild Geese Gaelic Football Club of Orange County.
Peter was also involved with the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, but his favorite club was the greatest grandfather club. He loved and supported his children, and adored his grand-children even more.
He will be missed for his humor, storytelling, caring nature, and the ability to live his life with loyalty, laughter and love. Mary remained at his side until he took his last breath, still holding her hand. May he rest in peace in the arms of our Lord.
