Peter Edward Jones (Pete) born August 26th, 1934 and passed away December 4, 2013 at the age of 79. He died peacefully at his home in Laguna Niguel, Ca. Peter is survived by his wife of 57 years Brenda Jones, his 4 children, Kevin Peter Jones, David Jones, Dean Jones and Kristie Day. Pete was also blessed with three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Pete was born in London, England the first of four children of Edward and Katherine Iona Jones. His sister, Iris Simantel and brothers Chris Jones and Robert Jones still reside in England. Pete was evacuated during World War II to the countryside of England for several sad years where he lived with a family, scared and alone and always felt angry and sad about this part of his past. It was a moment in his young life that defined who he was for the rest of his life. He met Brenda at Sun Printers in Watford and married in Watford, England. They immigrated to Chicago to be with his sister Iris in 1957.
Pete began at RyderTypes in Chicago as an apprentice typesetter in 1957. He worked nights for many years then went into a sales role, then a VP, and he was named President in 1981. His legacy is one of strength, determination, hard work and intelligence. In 1982 he received his 25 year Rolex watch and this is considered by many to be his proudest achievement. Pete was very well liked and respected by his peers, friends, and especially his family in the UK and the US. His success professionally and financially was obvious to everyone who knew him. He was always humble and generous to everyone he came in contact with.
Pete had a very severe stroke in 1985 which partially paralyzed him. He retired from RyderTypes due to his handicap. Pete and Brenda moved to Orange County, Ca in 1988 to escape the cold Chicago winters and be nearer to their closest friends Cindy and Phil Ballmaier (who they met in Chicago in 1957). For 23 years they lived in Coto de Caza with a beautiful view of a golf course and the Saddleback Mountains. In 2011, Pete and Brenda moved to Laguna Niguel to be near their daughter and grandchildren.
In June of 2013 Pete was diagnosed with lung cancer. After 35 years of smoking this did not come as a complete shock. Pete's sense of humor was always one of his most treasured traits and he took the scary diagnosis in stride and said 'well, you have to die of something". He was a master at lightening the mood in any room with a joke and this was no exception.
