Obituary

Peter Phillip Vari Jr., 87, of Mission Viejo, CA succumbed to complications with Type 2 Diabetes at St. Joseph Hospital in Mission Viejo surrounded by his family on Monday July 31, 2017.

Peter was born on August 24, 1929 in the submarine base town of New London, Connecticut. He was eldest of four boys born to Irma and Peter Vari Sr. He graduated from Chapman Technical High School and Pasadena City College.He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1950 and served his country for four years during the Korean War.Peter was a Staff Sargent and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal on September 11, 1953 and the Good Conduct Medal on October 8, 1953.He married Antoinette Victoria Tarozzi on March 3rd, 1951.While he was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base in 1953, his son Michael Louis, was born.In 1956, 2 years after his Honorable Discharge, his daughter Louise Antoinette was born.

Upon leaving the Air Force, he moved his family to Whittier, California where they resided for 16 years before moving to La Mirada, CA. Peter and Antoinette loved going to Palm Springs and owned a mobile home close by to Antoinette's mother.They spent a lot of time in the desert in the 1960's and 1970's.Peter moved to Mission Viejo, California in December of 1992 just days after Antoinette passed away from breast cancer.

Peter worked for Shell Oil and Hughes Aircraft. He was a Telecommunications Specialist at Hughes Aircraft for 27 years, where he retired from in 1987.

Peter loved the theatre and took private acting lessons from Karl Heinz Roth in Beverly Hills. He had lead acting rolls in several plays with the Fullerton Foot Lighters and The Rio Hondo Playhouse.He was in a movie called "Eden Cried" that played in a Hollywood Theatre in the 60's.
His hobbies included acting, cars, cooking, and fishing. He also loved animals and took in a few strays.He was fluent in English and Italian.

Peter was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. Peter is survived by his brother Alfred Vari, his son Michael Louis Vari and wife Karen, daughter Louise Antoinette Ruiz and husband George, and two grandsons, Michael Anthony Vari and Ryan Peter Ruiz.He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Irma, his two brothers, Henry and Robert and his wife of 42 years Antoinette.
