Obituary
Phyllis V. Peterson, age 91, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016 from heart failure. She was at home she loved so much in Laguna Woods, CA.
Born April 13, 1924 in Canova South Dakota to Harry & Lillian Loudenburg, she was the youngest of 11 children, and so proud of her family. She worked on the farm with her siblings, even driving a tractor as a child.
She met Duane Peterson while working at John Morell Meat Packing Plant in Sioux Falls and spent 42 years together, residing in Burbank before his passing. Together they enjoyed square dancing, bowling, playing cards and traveling in their motorhome. They had a home in Kernville, where the family frequently vacationed. She was a bookkeeper, a school cafeteria manager, gardener extraordinaire and her baked goods are famous! After her retirement and move to Laguna Woods, she found joy in volunteering. At Saddleback Hospital, she spent thousands of hours over the years, and within the Players Club she escorted groups to events and worked at Bingo. Her desire to return to the work and her friends at the hospital kept her going this past year.
Phyllis & Duane believed God and family were important above all else. There were yearly trips to South Dakota, holiday celebrations, and excitement for each addition to the family. And none of us will forget Rummikub! They lived their lives showing us every day how to support and nurture the bond we have. Mom's greatest gift to us is our love and respect for each other.
She is survived by Roxine (Dave) Sutherland of Tustin, CA, Dick (Debbie) Peterson, Suwanee, GA, Vicki (Brian) Abercrombie, Camino, CA, Patty (Bruce) Blumberg, Tarzana, CA, Carol (Chuck) Buffum, San Jose, CA. 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
