Obituary

Pierre Francis Giammanco, M.D., passed away on May 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on June 20, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Frank Anthony Giammanco, a produce wholesaler, and Ruth Olive Doherty. He grew up in Detroit, the second of four children, including two sisters and one brother.

Dr. Giammanco completed his pre-medical coursework at the University of Detroit before earning his medical degree from Wayne State University in 1964. He served as a reserve officer in the United States Army working as a medic and completed his otolaryngology residency at Detroit’s Harper Grace Medical Center in 1969. A cosmetic surgery fellowship with Dr. Morey Parkes in Beverly Hills, California, followed his residency.

In 1969, Dr. Giammanco established his private practice in Rochester Hills, Michigan, beginning what would become a long, distinguished, and deeply devoted medical career. While living in Michigan, Dr. Giammanco served on staff at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Pontiac and as a guest lecturer at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Following the death of his first wife in 1994, with whom he shared two children, he moved to Newport Beach, California, in 1995, where he began a new chapter of life, remarrying and becoming the father of five additional children.

Dr. Giammanco practiced as a board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Newport Beach for over 20 years. During his years in California, he served on staff at Hoag Memorial Presbyterian Hospital in Newport Beach and as a guest lecturer at the University of California, Irvine. He pioneered, mentored, and published on many topics, including rhinoplasty, facelifts, blepharoplasty, chemical peels, medical photography, and liposuction. He later transitioned into occupational medicine in otolaryngology, remaining active in medicine until his retirement in 2023.

Outside of his 54-year career in medicine, Pierre was a lifelong lover and patron of both music and art. In his high school years, he played the double bass in a band called The Melodeers. Throughout his life, he enjoyed attending operas, playing jazz piano and bass guitar, listening to classical music, and sketching portraits and faces. His lifelong love of art and drawing became a major inspiration for his expansion into facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, where his artistic sensibilities and medical skill worked hand in hand.

Known affectionately to many as “Dr. G” or “Pete,” he was admired not only for his skill as a physician but for the compassion and humanity he brought to every patient encounter. He cared immensely for those he treated and consistently went to great lengths to help others in whatever capacity he could.

Dr. G will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, warmth, and friendly spirit toward people from all walks of life. His presence touched many, and his legacy will endure in the hearts of family, friends, colleagues, and patients alike.

In his final chapter, Dr. Giammanco was surrounded by the unwavering love of the five children, Chris Giammanco, Aly (Lawrence) Liau, Frenchy Giammanco, Brianna Giammanco and Brooke Giammanco who cared for him with devotion, compassion, and dignity in his last battle with cancer.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at McCormick & Son Mortuaries, followed by a graveside burial at 1:30 p.m. at El Toro Memorial Park.
