Obituary

Ramon Tirol Kimpo, Jr. ('Jun') passed away peacefully in his home in Mission Viejo on Friday, March 23, 2018.He was 82 years old.He died of complications due to lung cancer, which he was diagnosed with in late 2014.

Ramon was born on February 18, 1936, in Davao City, Philippines.He was the third of 6 children born to Ramon Escalona Kimpo and Edna Gonzales Tirol.He married Ruth Paderna Razon on December 29, 1965, settled in Davao City and had two wonderful children, Ruel and Rhea.He and his family moved to California in 1988, settling in Mission Viejo for the next 30 years.Sadly, Ruth passed away in 2010.He is survived by his two children, Ruel and Rhea Kimpo, son-in-law Benedict Gallardo, and grandchildren Marcus and Alec Gallardo.His older siblings, Juan Ramon Kimpo and Thelma K. Panganiban have passed, but he is survived by siblings Barbara K. Villanueva, Amelita Kimpo, Philip Kimpo, and Mary Ann K. Al-Sheri, and their families.

He attended Ateneo de Davao University for his elementary and high school years, and received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from University of Mindanao.He later went back to Ateneo for his Master's degree in Business Administration. His first job was with the Bureau of Public Works in Davao City.From there he went on to work with Planters Products.Later, he shifted to working with Anflocor, first with the Unifinance division of Davao Motor Sales, and then as manager of the box plant division of Tagum Agricultural Development Company, Inc.After moving to California, Ramon worked as a Civil Engineer with the Environmental Management Agency in the County of Orange for 18 years, retiring from this position in 2007.

Ramon's greatest pleasure in life was his time with his lovely wife, Ruth, followed by his two children.He enjoyed spending time with his two young grandsons, who always brought big smiles to his face.He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.He taught his children how to be responsible, kind, and live their lives with integrity in the Christian faith.

In his spare time, Ramon loved traveling with his wife and escorting her to social functions.He was a generous man who helped relatives in need, and donated his services to non-profit organizations such as the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers and Davao Association, USA.They were active in their church, Laguna Country United Methodist church, where they met several of their good friends whom they shared both joyful and sad occasions.

Ramon was a movie buff, enjoying both Hollywood classics and modern films. He loved watching boxing, basketball and tennis matches.He was a poet at heart; his favorite poets were Edgar Allan Poe and Robert Frost.In his last years, he regularly went to the movies, traveled to Boracay Island and Davao City, and read books about the lives of Filipino immigrants in the United States.

Services in his memory will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018, starting at 9am at McCormick and Son in Laguna Hills, CA.He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife at El Toro Memorial Park following the service.
