Obituary

Rebecca (Becky) Ehrlich, nee Thurman, 79, passed away surrounded by her family on March 23, 2023, after a brief illness at St. John's Hospital. Preceded in death by her daughter, Kathryn, who passed away when she was three months old. She is survived by her husband, David, Camarillo; children, Cindi (Kevin) Whittemore, of Montara, Christopher (Paola) Ehrlich of La Jolla, Ed (Bobbi) Ehrlich of Lompoc, and Kim (Ivan) Martinez of Oxnard; grandchildren, Keegan, Nicky, Taylor, Gavin, Tony, Megan, and Noah.

Rebecca was born on April 2, 1943, in Yuma, Arizona to Rebecca and Albert Thurman. She was raised in Yuma, with her younger brother Albert Thurman.

Rebecca attended Moorpark High along with her husband and cherished longtime friend Sharon Delgado nee Bosson, who was by her side when she passed away. After graduating she worked at Sears before her marriage to David, who was in the military, took her to Puget Sound in Washington, where he was stationed. During the time that she lived there she loved to walk on the beach and collect seashells to show her husband when he returned from tour. When he came home, he found that the house smelled of fish. She of course did not smell it and thought they looked pretty.

Rebecca and David eventually settled in Camarillo where they raised their children. She began working in the CCD office at St Mary Magdalene in 1976 where she worked tirelessly for four decades! Rebecca remained active in the church that she adored and attended mass regularly.

Rebecca loved cooking and baking delicious cookies for her family and friends. Persimmon cookies were her specialty! She loved music and dancing. Her love of dance came from her mother, who was a dance teacher, and owned a little dance school in Yuma, Arizona.

Rebecca was an avid reader and loved Western Novels. She also loved music especially Mexican music. On her 70 th birthday her children surprised her with a Mariachi Band where she danced long into the night.

One of her most treasured memories was meeting Elvis Presley when he was filming a movie in Conejo Valley, when she was a teenager. She took great pride in telling that story and showing the picture to everyone she met.

Rebecca loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren whom she loved to spoil. She had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community in Camarillo. Her passing leaves a huge gap in the hearts of everyone that loved her.
