Obituary

Richard (Dick) Joseph Hoban, 73 of Laguna Niguel, California passed away suddenly of complications of Burkitt's Lymphoma at Mission Hospital, on November 25th, 2016.

Born to Richard and Harriet Hoban on December 22nd, 1942 in Chicago Illinois, Richard was the eldest of 5 children; Kathleen, Carol, Thomas and Michael. Richard's family moved to southern California in 1958, when he was 17 years old. He attended St. Augustine's High School and the University of San Diego.

Richard was ambitious from a young age, and his love of people and gift of gab contributed to his success in the business world. Richard was hired as a management trainee for the Montgomery Ward retail chain in his late teens. His determination, commanding stature, charming smile and affinity for public speaking enabled him to rise through the ranks of leadership in the organization where he proudly served a fulfilling 40-year career with the company.

As a young twenty something, Richard met the love of his life, Donna Pepi. The two married on July 10th, 1965 and raised two children, a daughter, Christina Marie and son, Richard (Rick) Anthony. Richard loved the Lord, was a dedicated father and faithful provider. His ethics were respected by many, and his willingness to mentor, support and display unconditional love towards others was second to none. These qualities prepared him for his role as a grandfather to Hayley, Kristian and Whitney. Affectionately known as Papa, he was a "hands on grandpa", changing diapers, babysitting, chauffeuring, and demonstrating the loyalty and importance of family.

Richard loved simple things, See's Candy peanut brittle, cheap chardonnay, Sunday dinners with family, barbequing tri-tips, mowing and pruning the yard, growing tomatoes, phone calls with his siblings and friends, and telling those important to him, "I love you." He will be greatly missed and his legacy will live on through those he leaves behind. Richard is survived by his 2 children, Christina and Rick, son-in-law, Mark, siblings Kathleen, Thomas and Michael, and 10 nieces and nephews.
