Obituary

Richard L. Alf was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on March 5, 1930
to Caryl and Erick Alf. Richard married Marion Holmes in 1949 and
they celebrated 66 years together before her passing in November of
2015. Richard passed away on November 3, 2016 in Huntington Beach,
California. He was 86 years old.

Photography had been his vocation since high school. He began his
career at Johnson Studios in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, then worked as a
photographic apprentice in Topeka, Kansas, and later taught at The Air
Force School of Photography in Denver, Colorado. In 1956, he moved
to Winona, Minnesota to manage Edstrom Studio, which he purchased in
1962, and renamed Alf Photography. He received his Master-Craftsman
Degree from the Professional Photographers of America and served as
President of the Minnesota Professional Photographers Association

Richard was a veteran and proudly served his country in the United
States Air Force with duty in Korea in 1953-1954.

Richard is one of five founders of WinCraft, Inc. located in Winona,
Minnesota. The business was established in 1961 and has become a
leading manufacturer of licensed and promotional products for
retailers, professional sports teams, colleges, businesses and
schools.

When Richard became a born-again Christian in 1972, his focus expanded
into ministry. In 1974, he became a founding member of Living Light
Church located in Winona, Minnesota and later became a licensed
minister through Gospel Crusade Ministries in Bradenton, Florida.
After moving to California in 2000, Richard joined Gideon's
International and also volunteered as a chaplain through Orange County
Jail Ministry.

His hobbies included sailing, golfing, teaching Bible studies, and
taking trips with Marion in their various motor homes.

He was a gentle man, always dignified and respectful. He lived to
serve God, his family, and others.

Richard and Marion are survived by their children Thomas (Debra) of
Robbinsdale MN, Nancy Anderson (Ronald) of Westminster CA, Daniel Alf
of Long Beach, CA, and foster daughter Beverly Heftman of Winona, MN.
He had 3 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at McCormick & Son Mortuary Chapel on
Sunday, November 13th at 2pm

The interment will be a private service at on Tuesday, November 15th at Riverside
National Cemetery.
