Richard Thirkell Sorensen Sr was born on May 21, 1931, in Council Bluffs Iowa, and passed away in his sleep on January 9, 2024, in Irvine California. Richard was the son of Sigard and Maude Sorensen of Council Bluffs Iowa and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School and later went on to Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska where he was in ROTC and graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Biology. While attending Creighton he met the love of his life LouAnn at a Ballroom dance and married in 1956. Upon graduating from Creighton he worked a short time for Eli Lilly in experimental projects before deciding to enter Pharmacy School at Creighton University, where he earned a Pharmacy Degree. Shortly after graduating he moved his family in 1965 from Omaha to Tustin California and began his long 35+ year career for Savon Drug now CVS. In 1969 he moved his family into their new forever home in Irvine. Richard and LouAnn had 4 children, Debra, Suzanne, Richard Thirkell Jr., and Michael John, and enjoyed weekends, holidays, and summers waterskiing and camping at Canyon Lake and later taking their grandchildren as well. Richard enjoyed going to his son's and grandson's sports games and pitching in as an assistant coach when needed. He enjoyed family time and going out to breakfast and dinner.  He attended an Episcopal Church in his younger and middle years before converting to Catholicism in his later years and served as an usher at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Turtle Rock.
He is survived by his wife LouAnn Sorensen, his four children Debra Ann Sorensen, Suzanne Yungblut, Richard Thirkell Jr, and Michael John Sorensen and grandchildren Troy Knutson, Tony Knutson, Richard Thirkell Sorensen III, Travis Sorensen, Summertime Fredrickson, Jake Yungblut, Gina Sorensen and A.J. Sorensen. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Steven Knutson, Harley Knutson,  Lucas Knutson, Aviv Sorensen, Penelope Sorensen, Richard Thirkell IV (Storm) Sorensen, Saylor Sorensen, Colt Sorensen, Juniper Yungblut, Lemon Frederickson, and Wes Sorensen.

Private services will be held on January 18, 2024.
