Dr. Robert Samuel Dobrin, MD, writer, and poet, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2019 in Lake Forest, California.
Dr. Dobrin devoted much of his life to the study and practice of medicine. Early in his career he became an accomplished researcher and clinician who specialized in pediatric critical care and nephrology. Later he designed, organized, and directed medical programs for critically ill children as well as medical transport systems in the San Francisco Bay Area, the western United States, and throughout California. He was proud of his work, especially his contributions as the first Medical Director at California Shock/Trauma Air Rescue (CALSTAR). In 1991 Dr. Dobrin earned a degree in Behavioral Pediatrics and Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatry. He worked to improve the lives of children and young adults as a psychiatrist in private practice until his retirement. Dr. Dobrin was also a fiction writer and poet inspired by his love of the California coast. His dry humor and running commentary on sports, movies, and politics will be missed by all who knew him.
Dr. Dobrin was born in Passaic, New Jersey, into the loving home of his parents, Harry and Sara Dobrin, and his sister, Doris. He is survived by his two sons, Jason and Seth, and his granddaughter, Elena. He was 77 years old.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00am on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at McCormick and Son Mortuary at 1795 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach, California 92651.
