ROBERT D. PENMAN, 73
Laguna Woods/Orange County
Robert D. Penman, 73, died peacefully, surrounded by family on April 19th, 2013 at 7:40 A.M., in Laguna Niguel, CA, at the residence of Dennis & Jamie Penman. He was born to the late Robert and Sara Dee Penman on October 19th, 1939, in Grove City, Pennsylvania.
Bob graduated from Hamilton High School, class of 1957. During this time he also graduated from the Junior Division of the ROTC program. Following graduation Bob attended Santa Monica City College where he received his Associates of Arts in 1960. By the middle of 1962, he had graduated from UCLA with a Bachelors of Arts in Finance, finished Officer Candidate School, and joined the United States Air Force. Bob served for 15 years, retiring as a Captain in 1977. During his 15 years of honorable service, Bob was a Defense Specialist Courier with Top-Secret Security Clearance and traveled around the world, extensively throughout the Middle East. Then in 1973 he served as a Systems Financial Analyst for such programs as the B1 Bomber, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and numerous Air-to-Air Missile Programs. Bob was the proud recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal as well as the Air Force Commendation Medal for his sustained acts of heroism and meritorious service, for valorous actions in direct contact with an enemy. During his career in the Air Force, Bob also managed to graduate from the USC Masters program where he earned his Masters of Science in Systems Management in 1973. Captain Robert D. Penman retired from the Air Force in 1977.
In 1978, Bob used his security clearance, earned from his years in the Air Force, and accepted a position with McDonnell Douglas as their Financial Control Specialist. Bob retired from the Aerospace industry in 1994 and became a retired-full time lover of the stock market.
In Bob's leisure, he enjoyed bowling in numerous leagues, playing volleyball, playing the stock market, re-purposing his newspapers and salsa jars, flirting with the pretty ladies, ESPN, watching Dennis and Travis play soccer, attending Saddleback Church and spending time with his family and friends.
Bob is survived by his loving sons: David Penman and Dennis Penman and Dennis' wife Jamie Penman. His five beautiful grandchildren: Amanda Penman, Alex Penman, Travis Penman, Janelle Penman and Kyrsten Koops and his older brother George Penman. Bob is also survived by his Aunt Irene and numerous loving cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.
Bob will be fondly remembered by family and friends as an Officer and a Gentleman, a loving father, and one of the first recyclers. Really, Bob recycled everything by cleaning it up and trying to give it to his family and friends! If he couldn't give it away, he wouldn't throw it away. He was a proud patriot, US Air Force Veteran and an analyst to the end. For those that knew Bob closely, he'd be the one you turned to if you wanted to find out all the pros & cons about anything and everything (and we mean ALL the pros & cons)!
Seeing as Bob endured many years with Diabetes and succumbed to Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, in Lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org/donate) or The American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org/donate).
