A Tribute to Robert Michael Ridley, "Coach Bob"
On January 18, 2025, the world lost an extraordinary man: Robert Michael Ridley, affectionately known as "Coach Bob." At the age of 83, he passed peacefully due to old age at the Laguna Hills Health and Rehab Center. He resided in Lake Forest, leaving behind a legacy of
inspiration, wisdom, and love.
Born on May 30, 1942, in Reading, England, Robert was the cherished son of Tom and Avril Ridley. From a young age, his indomitable spirit was evident. One of his favorite childhood stories—often retold with a twinkle in his eye—was about leaving home at just 16 to pursue a dream his parents thought impossible: becoming a professional soccer player. Against all odds, Robert's determination took him across the globe, playing soccer at the highest levels and making history. He lived in England, Australia, Texas and then to Orange County California.
During Robert's Soccer Career, he was named 'Player of the Year' three years in a row and was a key player on the team that claimed the World Cup. His transition from player to coach was seamless, as he brought the same passion and skill to guiding young athletes. Coaching players aged 5 to 17, Robert's influence shaped not only their game but also their character. He was honored as Coach of the Year, a testament to his impact on and off the field.
Beyond his soccer career, Robert's interests were as varied as they were vibrant. He had a love of thinking up ideas for available land, an entrepreneurial spirit that led him to own a restaurant in Texas. He had a deep love for animals and children. Known for his insightful conversations, Bob was a man of profound wisdom who could captivate anyone with his stories and thoughtful reflections.
He also loved to sing and dance, making the room laugh. A kind heart and such a warm loving temperate.
Family was the cornerstone of Robert's life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Pouran Ridley, and his children: Carmen Ridley (spouse Mason Clause) and Maxine John. His legacy lives on through his granddaughters, Francesca Munich, and his cherished siblings, Avril and Julie, and
his step grandchildren Emaun, Parisa and Sahar Mohamed. His stepchildren, Farman and Panteha Zandi. Robert's humor and guidance enriched the lives of those closest to him, leaving an indelible mark.
A celebration of Bob's life will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2025, 10 A.M. at The Church of Latter-day Saints at 24755 Trabuco Rd, Lake Forest, CA 92630.
As we gather to honor this remarkable man, let us remember the lessons he imparted: to dream boldly, live fully, and as he always said "DON'T SAY IT, DO IT!."
Robert, your wisdom, humor, and unwavering spirit will remain in our hearts forever. Thank you for the countless lives you touched and the legacy of love and excellence you leave behind.
