IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sang Hoon
Choi
May 21, 1938 – February 27, 2025
With profound sadness, we share the sudden passing of Sang Hoon Choi, who left this world at the age of 86. A man of exceptional intelligence, boundless energy, quiet strength, and an unshakable love for his family, Sang leaves behind a legacy of hard work, sacrifice, generosity, and devotion.
Born on May 21, 1938 in Ulsan Bangeojin, South Korea, Sang faced life's greatest challenges with courage and resilience. When his parents passed away while he was a student at Pusan National University (PNU), he stepped up without hesitation to raise his seven younger siblings, all while continuing his studies and graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1963.
Sang married his wife Ok Kye (nee Kim) on February 14, 1971, and later that year, they welcomed their first son, Steven. Determined to build a better future, Sang and Ok immigrated to Los Angeles in 1972, enduring countles hardships as they worked tirelessly to establish a new life. Their journey was filled with sacrifice, but also joy, with the birth of their second son, Edward, in 1973, and their youngest, Brian, in 1985.
Through perseverance and relentless hard work, Sang fulfilled his long-held dream in 1982 by founding an electronics contract manufacturing company, now known as Astronic, Inc. A man of sharp intellect and endless curiosity, he was a brilliant engineer, renowned for his ingenuity and ability to solve even the most complex problems. Yet, his heart was always drawn to the beauty of nature - he hiked every day, embracing the peace and wonder of the outdoors. He also found great enjoyment in ballroom dancing and exploring the world, traveling to incredible destinations, including the North Pole, Antarctica, Russia, and Iceland. In a true testament to his unbeatable spirit and determination, he even conquered Mt. Kilimanjaro just weeks before his 80th birthday.
Above all, Sang's greatest joy in life was his family. One by one, he brought five of his seven siblings and their families to join him in America, ensuring they had greater opportunities for a better life. His love for his family knew no bounds, and he was their constant guiding light. He led with kindness, wisdom, and an unwavering belief in the strength of family. His presence made every gathering more meaningful, and his selflessness was a constant inspiration to all who knew and loved him
Sang is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Ok Kye; his three beloved sons, Steve (Sow), Eddie (Tiffany), and Brian; his four precious grandchildren, Kayley, Dylan, Emily, and Ethan; his three brothers and four sisters; and is further survived by many adored nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Although Sang is no longer with us, his love, stories, and laughter will live on forever. He is deeply missed but will never be forgotten.
Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at St. Thomas Korean Catholic Center, 412 N. Crescent Way, Anaheim. CA 92801
