Obituary

Saundra "Sandy" Gilley Vicini, born March 29, 1945 in Lynch, KY passed peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024 with her loving daughters by her side.

Sandy is survived by her daughter Angela Vicini, daughter Greta (Jay) Wadkins, brother Clayton (Pat) Gilley, sister Debbie Tillis, grandchildren Grady Lucas, Gabby Lucas, Jake Wadkins, Kyle Wadkins, and Taylor Wadkins, nieces and nephews Cliff Gilley, Brad Gilley, Carolyn Tillis, and Dana Bauer, and many members of her extended Vicini family. Sandy was preceded in death by her father Manley Clayton Gilley, mother Margaret Jane Parrott, her sister Sheila Ricketson, and her son John Vicini III.

Sandy had an unwavering love for her family and cherished the time spent with them. She found immense joy in annual trips to Disney World, creating cherished memories with loved ones amidst the magic of the happiest place on Earth. Additionally, she enjoyed summer vacations to her hometown of Lynch, KY and getting dressed up for the Lynch Invitational ("LIT") and being surrounded by family and friends. She was so proud of being from Lynch and loved talking about the history of the coal mining town.

A huge supporter of the University of Kentucky basketball team, Sandy was a passionate fan who eagerly cheered on her beloved Wildcats. She found immense excitement in following their victories and shared her enthusiasm with her family.

Sandy was an avid reader and television brought her comfort and entertainment. She spent hours watching her favorite programs including her daily soaps and anything sci-fi, especially Star-Trek. She found joy in each storyline and character. But above all, Sandy cherished the moments spent watching her grandchildren. Their laughter and smiles brought her happiness, and she treasured every precious moment spent with them.

In the kitchen, Sandy showcased her talents through her love of baking and her spaghetti & meatballs recipe will be passed on for many generations. Her delicious food brought happiness to family gatherings, creating memories that will be fondly remembered by all. Holidays won't be the same without her at the card table while eating her delicious pound cake that she credited to her Auntie, who was so special to Sandy growing up.

Sandy also had a special place in her heart for cats, finding companionship and comfort in their presence throughout her life.

Throughout life's trials and tribulations, Sandy remained resilient, never complaining but facing challenges head-on. She leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that will continue to inspire us. Sandy will be deeply missed by her family. Though she may no longer be with us in person, her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024, 11:30 a.m. at Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, KY followed by a reception.
