IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sheila Maureen
Martin
January 19, 1956 – August 20, 2022
Sheila Maureen Martin, born January 19, 1956 in Los Angeles, CA, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 20, 2022 in her Lake Forest home. Sheila was a beloved wife, mother to 3 and grandmother to 7. Born to Dale and Carol Murphy, she was the oldest of 4 girls. Sheila grew up in Lake Forest, California after moving with her family from Los Angeles, California in 1967. Several years later she met her soulmate and high school sweetheart David Martin, while working at McDonald's and studying at Mission Viejo High School, where she graduated early in 1974. After many adventures over their 5 years of courtship they married on August 20, 1978 in Santa Ana, California.
Before leaving the workforce to raise a family, Sheila worked in banking. She is survived by her husband David, her son Matthew, daughters Stephanie and Melissa, and sons-in-law Shawn and Charles. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren Kaylee, Rylee, Braden, Mason, Lily, Simon and Hazel. Prior to having children, Sheila enjoyed camping and exploring the Western states of Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, and Arizona with her husband David. Together they enjoyed riding dirt bikes, attending concerts and plays, water skiing on the Colorado River, riding bicycles at the beach and camping in the desert. When Sheila became a mother, all her time and attention turned to their children. She was devoted to immersing her children in many different activities and her days would be spent carting them around to various practices, meetings and rehearsals. She was their biggest cheerleader as she watched them excel in baseball, dance and theatre. She eventually dedicated her spare time to running a Girl Scout troop for over 10 years, inspiring and empowering many young girls that were proud to call her their troop leader and role model.
Sheila's shining light and true pleasure in life were her grandchildren, whom she spoiled rotten. She and her husband enjoyed spending time with them at Disneyland as she and David were annual passholders for many years (Sheila's true 'Happy Place'). They made life-long memories together during their infinite trips to the river and desert, sharing some of their favorite past times from their youth. Her love of all things Disney (and Minnie Mouse) lives on in her grandchildren.
Those who knew Sheila (whether for a few hours or for a few decades) would all say the same thing: She was the most kind and generous human they had ever met. She would take in her children's friends and spoil them as one of her own, enjoying playing games and late-night talks when they would come to visit. Once Sheila knew your favorite snack or drink you can rest-assured she would have gallons of that favorite item ready for you the next time she saw you – unless it ended up at your doorstep from her first. Her kind heart, sense of humor and contagious giggles will be missed by all.
In true Sheila fashion, she did not wish to be celebrated or mourned. As a result, services have yet to be decided. If you would like to be included in a possible celebration of life event, please contact her daughter at stephelise82@gmail.com.
