Sophie (Maykowski) Dresel, 91, died peacefully on March 28, 2022, in Dana Point, CA.

She leaves her children, Barbara Dresel and Donald Dresel, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two siblings and many other family members and friends who love her.

Born and raised in Pennsylvania in the Shenango Valley, the daughter of Albert and Rose (Milewski) Maykowski, Sophie moved to California with her husband Walter and their children in 1964.There, they made many friends and became involved in community activities such as the Elks and Ford Model A clubs.
Sophie and Walter enjoyed traveling the country to attend annual reunions of Walter's Navy shipmates from World War II.The fun-loving couple also combined their passion for Model-A restoration with US road trips to attend Model-A swap meets.In addition, Sophie joined her kids on trips to Europe and Hawaii.
Sophie delighted her friends and family with baked goods.No one could get enough of her pineapple cakes, coconut cream pies, and pecan tarts, to name a few.

But nothing pleased Sophie more than her family, looking forward to their visits and preparing for their holidays together.She meticulously kept Polish and Catholic traditions in the meals and customs she prepared.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Laguna Beach on Saturday, April 30 at 10:AM. Burial will take place on May 2 at Riverside National Cemetery, where her remains will rest with her husband and their souls will be eternally united in heaven.
