Obituary

Stanley (Stan) Leung was born in Hong Kong on November 27, 1966. He was the first child of Margaret (nee Lau) and Tim Leung. Stanley would be joined by his brother Alan in June 1968. The brothers forged a competitive nature that also garnered a strong bond between them.

Stan spent the first 5 years of his life in Hong Kong. Throughout the years, Stan maintained fluency in Cantonese and became fluent in English as well, after he and his family moved to San Francisco in 1971. He spent much of his childhood in inner-city schools where he was constantly bullied for being Asian and smaller-framed than the other kids. He was known to defend himself and not back down from unjust treatment. He joined the wrestling team at Galileo High School in San Francisco and was a very determined wrestler, breaking his ankle during the wrestling national finals. During his high school years, he enjoyed heavy metal music, video games, horror movies, and sports (collecting baseball and football cards with his brother).

He moved to Orange County during the last 2 years of high school to live with his Uncle Tony, Aunt Sue, Grandma Sau Ping, and cousins Anna and Susie. He took on the role of big brother and enjoyed playfully terrorizing his little cousins in-between hiding himself out in his bedroom as a sullen teenager. He worked as a bus boy for his uncle and aunt's Nanking Chinese Restaurant, alongside his other male cousins who would spend the summers gaining work and customer service experience. He graduated from Esperanza High School in Anaheim. He worked at Disneyland during his college years to help pay for tuition. He completed his GEs at Fullerton College, subsequently transferring to Cal State University Fullerton, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Finance in 1993.

From 1993 to 2000, he worked as an accountant for Kenneth A. Carroll, CPA; Paul, Hastings, Janofsky, and Walker; AMRESCO Residential Mortgage Corporation, and Priority Bancorp. From 2000 to 2009, he was a Senior Associate with accounting firm Duckworth and Mehner, LLP, then was employed as a financial analyst with United Health Group, Inc., The Residential Group, and ultimately, CoreLogic.

Stan was quiet, contentedly introverted, and fiercely independent. He never married or had any children, but interacted with the children of his many cousins. When he did speak, he had a sense of humor and made people laugh. For a slim and small-framed guy, he was known to have an extremely hearty appetite, and enjoyed the rare home cooked meals during family parties. He cherished each car that he owned and took meticulous care of them. He also enjoyed mountain biking.

He fought fiercely during his two-week stay in Surgical ICU after suffering a massive stroke. On Day 3 of his hospitalization, he was able to give the hospital staff the 2 thumbs-up sign. He passed away peacefully on November 28, 2022, just one day after turning age 56.

Stan is survived by:
Parents Margaret and Tim Leung
Brother Alan Leung
Sister-in-Law Kat Koon
Niece Sydney Leung
