Stephen Lawrence Layne, affectionately called Steve by his family and friends, transitioned from this life into the arms of our Lord on March 18, 2022, in Laguna Woods, CA after a long illness. He was 84 years old.

Steve was born on August 10, 1937, in Glendale, CA to Florence and Edward Layne. He was predeceased by Florence and Edward as well as by his brother Pete, whom he lost at a very young age. Steve is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Layne, his stepchildren David, Richard, and Vincent Ferreria, grandchildren Elise, Aidan, Nico, and Liam Ferreria, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Steve went to Antelope Valley High School in Lancaster, CA. He attended college at the University of Southern California where he graduated Cum Laude in 1960 with a degree in Business. He had a long career at Jet Propulsion Laboratories in Pasadena, CA where he worked as a financial analyst for their various aerospace projects until retirement.

While attending college at the University of Southern California, Steve played trombone for the USC Trojan Band. He continued playing trombone for various community orchestras and small group bands throughout his lifetime. He loved playing and listening to classical music and going to the opera, especially those composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Funeral Services for Stephen Layne will be held on April 6, 2022, 11am at McCormick and Son Mortuary Chapel, in Laguna Woods CA, followed by a reception at the dining room. Interment will be held the following day, April 7, 2022, at Joshua Memorial Park in Lancaster, CA, the resting place of his parents, Edward and Florence Layne.

Steve will be missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.
