Steve McCammon, born August 11, 1950 in Manhatten, KS passed away of a stroke on Friday, October 20, 2017 in Mission Viejo, CA.Born to Rex and Glenna McCammon, Steve was preceded in death by siblings Michael and Kelly. He is survived by his sister Lori McCammon and three nieces McCammon Scott-Milles, Danielle Cregan-McCammon and Lindsey Charon.
Although Steve worked at jobs that would pay the bills and keep a roof over his head, his passion was acting. He spent years with a group of actors at a little theater in Santa Ana called Way off Broadway. Steve had roles in independent films such as, "Eight Lanes in Hamilton" and "Hell Ride." He can also be seen as the big, burly, lovable biker decorating a birthday cake for his cat in a Petco commercial.
Steve had a passion for animals and loved his little dog, "Buddy."Few people knew of his artistic talents.Out of a huge chunk of alabaster, Steve carved Mother Mary and Baby Jesus. He also has an extensive portfolio of drawings, most of them done in charcoal.
Steve was patriotic and loved the United States, especially the flag and what it stands for. He served in the Navy in the late 60's.
Steve was a comedian as well as an actor. His brother Mike used to say that when Steve was on, just sit back and enjoy the show. He could leave you with an aching stomach from laughing at his jokes.
But there was a compassionate, serious side to Steve as well. As his sister, I remember one night we were talking about motorcycles. He bugged me about getting a Harley. I kept putting it off and told him that someday I would get one. Well, he slammed his fist on the counter and proceeded to tell me that he was tired of hearing people say, "someday I'll do this or someday I'll do that." He reminded me that dad and Mike didn't get their "someday." They both died very young, 45 and 50. So I took the motorcycle training class, got my license and bought a Harley. My brother opened a whole new world to me by slamming his fist on the counter that night. Thank you Stevie. I love you and miss you.
A celebration of his life is being held Sunday, October 29th at the Sundried Tomato in San Juan Capistrano from 1PM to 4PM. The address is 31781 Camino Capistrano, ½ block south of the Mission.
