IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan Shawn
Deneff
May 31, 1943 – October 11, 2025
Susan S. Deneff passed at home in Costa Mesa on Saturday, October 11th, 2025. Her daughter Shana Nelson-Garcia and husband Danny Deneff were at her bedside at the time of her passing. Sue was born on the 31st of May 1943 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts to Frankland and Virginia Osarlles, raised in Great Barrington, Massachusetts until 1949. At that time the family moved to Corona Del Mar, California. In 1951 Sue, her youngest sister Frani moved to 22nd Street, Costa Mesa – on what was known as the Kaiser Dary Farm. Sue went on and graduated from Newport Harbor High in 1961 and was accepted to Colorado State University, Fort Collens, Colorado. Soon after graduation, she married John Nelson, a football player at C.S.F.C. and in 1968 gave birth to their daughter Shana. John and Sue divorced, and Sue and Shana came back to Costa Mesa, where soon after Sue was hired as a math and social studies teacher at Tustin Unified School District. Her first assignment was at Columbus Tustin Int School, where she taught for 32 years. In 1975 she met Danny Deneff in Laguna Beach after a brief courtship of 5 months, they married and 2 years later bought their present home in the college park area of Costa Mesa.
She is survived by her husband Danny, daughter Shana, son in law Allen, granddaughter Emily and grandson Brandon – as well as many cousins and nieces and nephews. Sue's farewell party will be in the spring of 2026 – with family and friends. She will be missed deeply and always adored by her husband. Rest in peace our sweet Sue.
