Todd Matthew Smith, age 64, died suddenly on May 3, 2019, in Laguna Hills, CA. He was a 1972 graduate of St. Anthony Village High School, and went on to the U.S. Coast Guard, where he served on an icebreaker and also on Lake Michigan search and rescue missions. After the Coast Guard, he did real estate title and process serving work for many years. Todd had retired to southern California in June 2018 and spent his last year soaking in the warm sun and cool ocean breezes.

Todd is survived by his wife, Maureen, of Laguna Woods, CA, his daughter, Bridget (Miguel) Mendoza-Smith of Eagan, his grandson, Emilio, his siblings Ciri Medina, Deidre (Jack) Krengel, Reed (Lynn) Smith, Ross (Leslie) FineSmith, and Nina (Todd) Smith. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and pets who will miss his warm smile, generous laugh, and big hugs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Phyllis (Anderson) Smith, and his brother-in-law Stan Medina.

On Thursday, May 30, there will be a gathering of family and friends at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., at the Minnesota Veterans Home, 5101 Minnehaha Ave. South in Minneapolis. Todd will be buried in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials can be made to your favorite animal rescue; Todd would like that.
