Vera Elizabeth Corbin, born June 7, 1921 in Edmond, Oklahoma, passed peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, October 18 at the home of Lindy and Mike Michaelis where she has lived since 2008. Vera was lovingly known as "Nana" to all who knew and loved her. Born to Patrick and Charlotte Begley, she was their last surviving child amongst six other siblings. Vera met Harry Corbin in New York City in 1940 and they married on February 8, 1942.They moved to Los Angeles, California in 1948 and started their family in 1951 when their son Douglas was born followed by their daughter Caryn in 1953.

She was doing some modeling in New York when she met Harry.But after they got married, she gave up her part-time career and became the consummate homemaker, fully dedicated to her husband and two children.She cooked, cleaned and made a wonderful home for Harry, Doug and Caryn. She was also a favorite with Doug and Caryn's friends when they visited, always there to greet them with her beautiful smile and something to eat.In the early 70's, after Doug and Caryn had left their home in Westchester, she went to work at the main branch of Security Pacific Bank in downtown Los Angeles where she managed the executive dining room for the bank executives whenever they hosted their important clients.Everybody loved Vera and her engaging personality – from the President and CEO to the security guards and janitors.Vera treated everyone she met the same - always with kindness and respect.

She retired in the mid-eighties to spend more time with Harry who had retired only a few years after Vera went to work at the bank. With their new found freedom, Vera and Harry enjoyed numerous vacations to Hawaii and were as much in love later in life as they were when they met. Harry passed away in August of 2000 and she lost her daughter Caryn in June of 2008. Shortly thereafter is when she moved in with Lindy and Mike Michaelis and lived there until she passed on October 18.

She is survived by her son Doug, her daughters-in-law, Lindy Michaelis and Victoria Corbin, her adopted son, Mike Michaelis, her five beautiful grandchildren, Ryan, Jessica and Alyssa Corbin, Jeremy Strubel, and Rose Temme and her adopted grandson, Tyler Michaelis. She is also survived by a number of loving and devoted nieces, nephews and other family members. But as full as her 96 years of life were, her greatest treasure was the 58 years she spent with Harry, followed closely by the time she spent with her loving children and grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday, October 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at McCormick & Son Mortuary, 25000 Moulton Parkway, Laguna Hills, CA 92653 followed by a reception at the home of Lindy and Mike Michaelis. Vera will be laid to rest earlier in the day next to her loving husband Harry and daughter Caryn.
