Today our Mom passed away. She came from humble beginnings, born poor - but with a wealthy spirit. She was an amazing woman of good heart that we were lucky to have on earth for 92 years, 5 months and 1 week. Growing up, at a very young age at the height of the great depression her Father left her, her Mother and her siblings. She had dresses made from flour sacks as that's all they could afford. She often said that no one should be prejudiced against anyone from whatever walk of life they came from. She met our Father and they were happily married for 53 years (he passed away on August 1, 1995). World War II began and our Father was called to serve his country. Our Mother raised their first son, supported the war effort, and carried on in his absence. After the war she had three more sons and a daughter. 19 years between the oldest and youngest. She had an amazing sense of humor, tenderness and patience. We were all schooled to attend church, be humble, have respect for others, and to do our best. Along with our Father she taught that family needs to rely upon one another. One didn't need handouts to success, one needed to simply work hard and with steady resolve never quit.
After the children were fully grown, she worked for Disneyland, helped the elderly, fed the homeless, and devoted time to family and church. She was always full of life, optimism and enjoyed being around children best of all. As recognition to her desires to help children, she regularly supported the St. Jude's Children's Hospital Organization.
She was extremely gracious and caring of others and would go out of her way to make anyone feel welcome, appreciated and comfortable. Proud of her children and their spouses, she loved all her 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and was happiest when it was a family get together.
On June 26th she passed quietly with grace, faith and knowledge her family loved her greatly. It's good to know God welcomed her home, and if we know our Mom – we wouldn't be surprised if she tells St. Peter to polish the Pearly Gates and vacuum up the place. And should anyone there step out of line, they'll no doubt be told to use good manners and act like proper ladies and gentlemen. We love you Mom and will miss you as always.
