HEARN, Virginia Booth Smith
103, of Laguna Woods, California, passed away in her home on Monday, August 26, 2013. She was born October 9, 1909 in Rochester, N.Y., daughter of Grace Ann Cole Booth and Joseph Elmer Booth. She attended school at the Rochester Conservatory of Music and Margaret Hall (KY) prior to moving to Phoenix, AZ in 1937 with her parents and sister, Marjorie. On February 21, 1939, she married Harvey Alexander Smith of Wickenburg, AZ where she resided at Sombrero Ranch in Wickenburg. Relocating to Phoenix shortly after the start of World War II to join her husband serving as a recruiting officer in the Navy, she soon became active in the Phoenix Jr. League, Symphony Orchestra Association, Phoenix and Paradise Valley Country Clubs, Heard Museum and Sombrero Playhouse. Moving to Guadalajara, Mexico with her husband and family members in 1960, she resided there for ten years until relocating to Laguna Woods, CA. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harvey, of 42 years on July, 1981. On April 9, 1988, she married Laguna Hills, CA resident, George Hearn, who passed away eleven years later on September 28, 1999.
Mrs. Hearn is survived by her married sons, Harvey Alexander Smith, Jr., Palm Harbor, FL, Stephen Cole Smith, Avon, CT and daughter, Sally Smith Thatcher, Dana Point, CA along with a nephew, Orme Lewis, Jr., of Scottsdale, AZ. Her extended family of seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and their families reside in California, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Wisconsin.
A memorial service will be held for family members only at McCormick & Son in Laguna Hills, California.
