Walter Edward Scott, long-time resident of Laguna Beach, died quietly in his sleep 14 November 2017. He was born 25 December 1921 to Genevieve Grace McDaniel Scott and Walter Elmer Scott, in Los Angeles, California.

"Scotty" attended Texas A&M University, as his father had done, but his studies were interrupted by his service in WWII.Despite not completing his degree, he was an ardent Aggie, and attended Musters into his 90's.

After WWII, he moved to Laguna Beach, which he had grown to love while visiting friends as a child, and lived there, in Bluebird Canyon, until his death.

He was a craftsman, and worked professionally as a tile setter for many years.His ability to create was demonstrated by the construction of his apartments on Agate Street after WWII, and his "replacement house" after the Bluebird Canyon slide of 1978.

His upbringing during the Depression instilled a frugality and self-reliance that led to his love of gardening (the results of which were enjoyed by neighbors and friends), refusal to use gas to heat the house (hence his constant search for firewood), and often insightful advice on how to "hammer to fit and paint to match".

As a young boy, he developed a love of philately, and he spent many hours over the decades with his stamps and stamp buddies, taking particular delight in winning door prizes at the Laguna Beach Philatelic Society.

He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Jean "Lien" Elvin Scott, his half-brother, James Everett Ives, and his sister Mae Grace Scott Mossman.He is survived by his daughter, Mary Celine Scott, and his nieces and nephews, and their children.
