Obituary

Warren (Jack) Taylor Burt passed away peacefully at his home in Laguna Woods, California, on December 22, 2013 after a long struggle with Lewy Body Disease. He was born in Trenton, Missouri on January 9, 1936 to Kenneth W. and C. Carolyn Burt. He is survived by his wife Betty (Bobbie Hatfield) Burt of 54 years, and their four children and six grandchildren: Tamara, husband Michael Farris and 2 sons, Taylor and Jakob; Daniel Burt; Kenneth Burt and 2 sons, Kenneth Jr. and Richard (Ricky); Susan, husband Michael Fitzpatrick and 2 daughters, Katie and Sarah.

When he was a small child Jack's parents moved the family to Arcadia, California, and he later graduated from Monrovia High School. He studied at the University of Colorado where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternal organization, and at the University of San Francisco where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He later earned a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. Jack spent most of his career in the aviation industry, starting with Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, and later worked for the Navy at the Naval Weapons Centers in China Lake, Fallbrook/Seal Beach, California. He was awarded several patents in his field. He retired in 1995 and began a 2nd career in the real estate industry, from which he retired in 2011.

Jack was artistic and creative. He loved sculpting and carving, creating a number of pieces in bronze, clay, and wood that are cherished by his family. He earned his pilot's license but later turned his attention to sailing. He was always up for an adventure, taking the family on a sailing trip to the Virgin Islands, house boating on Lake Powell, river rafting in Oregon with his grandsons, camping, etc. His favorite pastime was working on his sailboat.

Above everything else Jack loved his family. He was an attentive and loving husband, and greatly loved in return by his wife and family. His children and grandchildren always knew they could count on Grandpa to be their greatest supporter and number-one fan. His family will always consider him to be the greatest gift in their lives and we will miss him.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Walter Burt and Clifton Carolyn Taylor Burt, his older brother Walter, and niece Bonnie Burt D'Accardo.

Memorial service will be private.
