Obituary

Wedaad Dabee, born August 12, 1972, in Cape Town, South Africa, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Mission Hospital. Wedaad was lovingly known to all as Weedie.

Weedie spent her formative years in Johannesburg, South Africa but moved back to Cape Town as a young woman to attend the University of Cape Town to study Education. It was there that she met the love of her life, Sanjiv Dabee, and befriended the people that would become like her family for the remainder of her life. The couple married in 1997 and Weedie continued teaching Afrikaans in a primary school until they started their family a few years later. In 2006, the Dabee family settled in Aliso Viejo, CA permanently.

Throughout her life, Weedie pursued her passion for travel, visiting over 20 countries and five continents. In the last six months, she walked the Hermanus Camino in South Africa, spent a week in Ireland and Northern Ireland with her daughter, and took a couples' trip to Antigua! Of the many places she'd seen, her favorite destinations were Cape Town, South Africa, the hills of Switzerland, and the Canadian Rockies.

Although she formally left teaching in 2000, Weedie continued to educate those around her: volunteering in classrooms, mentoring Boy Scout Troop 700, and even homeschooling her son for two years. She is survived by her husband Sanjiv, daughter Kailah, and son Mikhail.

Affectionately known as the CEO of villagers and the glue of all her friend groups, Weedie built communities wherever she went. She'd be the first to wish someone for their birthday, suggest a new hiking trail, or welcome someone into her home (aka Weedie's B&B). She always had something to say, music in her ears, and a smile on her face—even if she was the one taking the photo!

Weedie's greatest pleasure in life was the time spent with her family and friends, most notably: hiking the local Laguna Beach trails, entertaining people in her backyard, watching movies, or going to Disneyland.

May we all be inspired by her endless positivity, her generous spirit, and her life motto: "Wake up everyday with purpose and never take life for granted."

Services will be held Thursday, June 19, 2025 at McCormick & Son Mortuaries and Crematory in Laguna Beach.
