Obituary

Winifred Arlene "Winnie" Bonnell was born in Severy KS on Jan 30, 1920 to Clarence and Edith (Briscoe) Sperling. She graduated from Latham High School in 1937 and then attend Butler County Community College in El Dorado KS. She was married to Herbert Gale Bonnell on June 10, 1950 in El Dorado KS.

Winnie believed in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a charter member of Park Avenue Baptist Church and was an active member there until her move to Southern California 2011. At Park Avenue, she sang in the choir, was a member of the women's groups and willingly lent a hand wherever it was needed. On her move to SoCal, she became active with a choir lead by Nonie Hilgesen and enjoyed preforming with that group.

She was an avid gardener and her yard at her El Dorado home was filled with flowers of all kinds that she shared with her friends and church. She gave up her flowers when she moved to California but helped tend her great grandchildren until her loss of vision prevented that. She enjoyed the move because it allowed her to spend more time with her beloved grandchildren and later great grandchildren.

Winnie was also an advocate of exercise whether it was at El Dorado's Senior Center where she was a member of the aerobic dancing group or swimming or just plain old walking. She stayed active until her health prevented it.

She leaves her family: daughter and her husband, Gayla and Bill Childers of Burlington WA; daughter, Karen Bonnell of Laguna Woods CA; and her grandchildren, Brandon and Emily Vazirian of Palcentia, CA; Meliah Vazirian of Laguna Woods; Amanda (Vazirian) and Chad Lewis of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; Josh and Dana Childers of Barrington IL; Jessica (Childers) and Jeremy Black of Augusta KS; and great grandchildren, Madeline Vazirian, Faith Vazirian, Colton Lewis, Jack Childers and Briannica Black; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Sperling of WY.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Gilbert Sperling.

She passed away on February 4 at 2:10am at Capistrano Beach Care Center in Capistrano Beach, CA after a short illness.

A family memorial service will be held on Sunday Feb 12 at the home of her grandson, with interment to be held at a later undetermined date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you plant a flower in memory of Winnie whether it be at your church or in your yard, anything to beautify your community.
