IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Young Ik
Kim
February 20, 1937 – February 5, 2024
Young Ik Kim was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. Born February 12, 1937, in Ham Kyung Nam province in North Korea, he passed quietly on February 5th, just before his 87th birthday, in Laguna Woods, California.
Uncle Ikky, as his many nieces and nephews called him, was born to Kim, Min Hyun and Han, Soo Duk. He was predeceased by his oldest sister, Anita Kaplow, and is survived by his second sister Chun, Young Ja and brother Kim, Young Bong.
He married his wife, Young Ja, in February 1965, had 2 children Kristine and Hyung, and emigrated from South Korea to the United States in 1969. They settled in San Francisco, close to his siblings, who would gather almost weekly to play Korean Go-Stop. Their mock arguments and teasing filled the house, and sometimes the entire neighborhood!
He loved golfing, skiing, and the outdoors and nature. One of his proudest accomplishments was his Hole in One at Harding Park Golf Course. And his favorite getaway was to Yosemite, where he and Young Ja would vacation every year for their anniversary, until they moved south to Laguna Woods in April 2019.
He was a proud father and adoring grandfather and we will miss his smile, his sense of humor, and his quiet strength, integrity, and faith. He is survived by his wife and their two children and their families: Kristine and Jay, children Julia and Trinity, and Hyung and Shannon, children Ashley and Daniel. We love you and we will miss you dearly!
